Solar and battery in Stone Bay and Joss Bay
The headland between two bays, in the open wind off the North Sea.
North Foreland rises between Stone Bay and Joss Bay. It is a chalk headland and the eastern edge of the Isle of Thanet, with a bold cliff that looks out over the southern North Sea. Stone Bay has a lifeguard in summer and swimmers at all times of the year, and Joss Bay had excellent bathing water quality in 2026.
That exposed position is good for light and hard on fixings. A roof here sees more wind and more salt than a street tucked behind the harbour. We ask for the panel's wind and salt ratings, the type of roof fixings and how the array will be inspected, and we put it on the quote.
We do not assume your home type here. Some properties suit a roof array. Others, such as a flat or a roof with an awkward pitch, suit a battery on its own, or a plug-in kit on a balcony. We say which, and what each costs, before you commit.
What we check at your address
- How exposed the roof is to wind, and the fixing and rail specification
- Roof direction, pitch and any shade
- Whether a battery or plug-in kit suits you better than a roof array

Questions about Stone Bay and Joss Bay
Can I get solar panels in Stone Bay and Joss Bay?
Most houses can. We check your roof direction, shade and any conservation area, flat or listed building rules for your address first. Thanet District Council lists 27 conservation areas across Thanet, and four of them name Broadstairs places.
Should I choose solar only, solar and battery, or a battery only in Stone Bay and Joss Bay?
With a roof of your own, solar only is usually the best value. Solar with a battery suits homes out in the day and busy at night. A battery only suits homes that already have solar, a cheap overnight tariff, or no roof to use. Our guide to choosing shows the sums.
